| Description: | Ononnyo (meaning unique and unparalleled in Bengali), is Mahua Sarkar Sen’s ever-growing archive (now an online retail experience) of heritage textiles and artefacts. With Sarees (Butties, the body, borders, the pallu and tassels) being the primary manifestation of the textiles, it becomes the guiding factor for the sections of a given page. The website also creates an avenue for exploratory paths through the ‘Registry’. A documentative journal diving to the deepest ends of craft clusters, weaving practices, Indian aesthetics, and more. All being offered through Mahua’s culturally attuned curatorial lens. The retail experience (e-commerce) is categorized as textiles (Sarees and other forms of textiles), adornments (various forms of jewellery), and curios (crafts and artefacts). With these three categories being the driving force of the online store, the rule of thirds become a prominent graphic principle. While the website was designed with a mobile-first approach, the desktop version embodies the rule of thirds. Keeping in mind the ‘archival’ or ‘museum’ like experience of these products in mind, the overall User Interface design is clean, simple and yet elegant, allowing a very direct shopping flow with all hygienic UX elements that can cater to Ononnyo’s wide audiences. |
