Description:	Bringing together a 120-year-old legacy of traditional craftsmanship with contemporary design sensibilities, Ekaya Banaras’ first ever concept store, has been conceptualized as a ‘A Walk in the Weave’, exemplifying Ekaya’s vision of promoting luxury handloom textiles to a new generation of buyers. Working directly with generations of skilled craftspersons, weaving is central to Ekaya’s identity. The weaving loom with its linear ‘tana-bana’ (warp-weft), was taken as the fundamental motif, deconstructed and juxtaposed in the way that space-making, display and lighting elements are all integrated and derived from it. The installation lends the space a labyrinth-like quality, inviting customers to disengage from the outside and immerse fully into Ekaya’s world of exquisite craftsmanship. Its ever-changing tapestry lends the space a visual dynamism, the layered experience zones staging a subtle reveal of the overall space. The design for Ekaya engages intimately with the notion of weaving—be it through the 3D brass installation or through the subtle nuances of its layout—immersing shoppers into the craft, and allowing them to incidentally discover new collections and products. The intervention deftly bridges the traditional and the modern, reflecting the evolving palettes of a new India, authentic to its roots, but distinctly contemporary.
