Description: | Object is a journalistic magazine that features the latest in fashion from India and also identifies its roots. An intersection of style and society. Issue II of Object explores the journey of silk. It meanders along the silk route, touching upon the networks impact on textile, trade and tradition. Known as the Peace issue, it reveals the interconnectedness of trade and the role fabric played in fostering ties between people’s from different cultures, customs and countries. The reader discovers society through fashion as narrated in stories that illustrate themes from bonded labour to the impact of rapid mechanisation on cloth. While designing the magazine, we adhered to the rules of conventional journalistic layout design for the different sections in the book- Photo essays, reportage, long form essays, interviews and so on. The books layout is inspired by a journalistic approach, drawing inspiration from the aesthetics and nuances of physical archives to emphasize the gravity of its subject matter. It adopts the structure and color palette of the Silk Route, reflecting the textiles used throughout the journey. The cover design itself is a narrative in its own right, where disparate elements come together to craft a captivating story. |
