Description:	One of the greats of Hindi literature, the Chandayan is a 14th-century Sufi epic and romance poem. Written in the Awadhi dialect by the poet Maulana Da’ud, in the Tughlaq period, the poem recounts the racy tale and romance of Lorik and Chanda while serving as an allegory about ‘ishq’ — love for the Divine. In the book, the English translation is accompanied by the Awadhi verses and illustrated with 530 known paintings from the sultanate period. The book is intricately designed to reflect the unique allegorical and symbolic motifs the paintings are renowned for. It includes designed separators, endpapers, a custom illustrated map, and a distinct motif separator to immerse the reader in the essence of the Chandayan. The cover is inspired by the distinctive grid and colour-blocking technique of the paintings. It features the simple yet grand portrayal of the overarching romantic, golden sun, against the painted blue sky. The stylised typeface complements the artwork and is paired with the unique colour palette of the paintings, giving a modern edge to the book. The Chandayan is a captivating piece of Indian art history, designed for the modern reader and a contemporary and unique addition to one's coffee table.
