Description:	Textile Tropics is an immersive e-textile installation for the Conscious Collective by Godrej Design Lab made in collaboration with traditional artisans. The installation is a simulated walk-through of an urban forest where the audience interacts with the pieces through touch-based stimuli and gets feedback in terms of birdsongs, rustling leaves, and lights. The installation consists of 15 interactive globes, each working independently and wirelessly yet interconnected as an ecosystem, mirroring nature itself. To encourage people to protect it, we have chosen birds that are commonly found in Indian urban spaces but are often forgotten or ignored. The Textile Tropics was one such installation that allowed us to explore the potential of craft and technology at a large scale. We executed this 500 sq. ft. installation, which took 17 artisans including machine karigars and woodwork specialists, 75 meters of fabric, and 47 days to produce this installation. The entire exhibit is a testament to the potential of craft and its evolution in the digital age. The installation received immense love and positive feedback throughout 3 weekends in December 2023.
